Absorption - small molecules
Permeability / Absorption of Small Molecular Compounds
Bioneer:FARMA has a range of barrier models available that can be used to determine the transport of your compound across a biological membrane. These models can help you identify which route of delivery as well as which formulation principle may be the optimal for your drug candidate.
Bioneer:FARMA has strong research interests and solid experience within cell culture models of epithelia and excised tissues mounted in diffusion chambers (Ussing chambers, Franz cells).
The models offered by Bioneer:FARMA cover the oral, pulmonary and dermal routes of administration.
On an experimental basis Bioneer:FARMA can perform permeability studies of biological drug compounds. The absorption or permeability of biologics such as peptides can be assessed by use of cell culture or other barrier models.
Bioneer:FARMA offers bespoke permeability studies tailored to the specific needs of the client.
BCS classification
A correct BCS classification of a drug candidate involves solubility as well as human intestinal permeability. Bioneer:FARMA offers permeability assessments of drug candidates using the recognized Caco-2 cell culture. The permeability across Caco-2 cells correlated with known standards will give a satisfactory surrogate measure of the human intestinal permeability.
Available models:
Oral Administration
Caco-2 cell culture
Ex situ models (excised rat intestinal tissue; Ussing chamber)
Pulmonary Administration
Dermal Administration
