Protein Production

Mammalian Protein Expression System

We offer to produce recombinant proteins in various types of mammalian cells in suspension in a wide range of volumes, from few mL to 100 L. Our current setup comprises production systems based upon shaker flasks (suspension cells, 12 x 1 L in parallel) and DASGIP bioreactors (suspension cells, 4 x 6 L in parallel).

Bioneer use CHO cells and HEK293 cells for both stable and transient mammalian expression. With regard to vectors, we can use any standard vector designed for transient or stable expression. We currently offer clients stable protein expression using the CHEF1 system from CMC Biologics A/S.

Bioneer is now offering fast protein production in mammalian cells based on transient gene expression – in a competitive HEK293 system. This system has been optimized to provide high protein yields within a short time frame.

Bioneer offers to produce protein by transient gene expression in a highly optimized transient gene expression system in HEK293 cells or CHO cells. Proteins are produced in less than two months covering the entire process from gene design to protein purification.

This service complements Bioneers services within recombinant protein production in bacteria and is particularly useful for production of complex human proteins or proteins requiring posttranslational modification, e.g. glycosylation.

Transient protein production at Bioneer will usually result in yields between 1 mg and 1 gram, dependent on the nature of the protein, production scale and production process optimization. Proteins produced in this way are practical whenever proteins are needed within a short time-span. Examples of this are in research, drug discovery, or drug development.
